Do I Need To Rent a 4-wheel drive camper in Namibia?

You don't need to rent a 4x4 camper in Namibia as there are many good roads that will take you just about everywhere.

  • If you want to travel to the remoter areas or into the game-parks then we suggest that you rent a 4x4 with roof tents or a Toyota Hilux truck-camper.
  • Britz Campers rent out 4x4 campers with roof tents and small truck campers.
  • Caprivi also have a good range of 4x4 campers with roof tents.
  • Bobo Campers have a long tradition of renting 4x4 campers and small motorhomes
  • SA Roadtrippers, Namibia have 2 wheel drive motorhomes and campervans for 2 to 6 people as well as truck campers and 4x4 Ford Rangers. All of these vehicles have air-conditioning.

Why do I need a compressor for my camper in Namibia?

You need a compressor because many roads in Namibia are covered in sand. It is common practice to slightly deflate tyres when driving over sand and then pump them up again when you are back on a sealed road, a dirt track. The depot will advise when you collect your vehicle.

How Old Do I have to be to rent a campervan or motorhome in Namibia?

You must be at least 21 to rent a campervan in Namibia. The maximum driver age is 85 years old.

When Should I Travel in my RV around Namibia?

We strongly recommend only driving your RV during daylight hours in Namibia. Driving after dark can be dangerous as there are many large wandering animals on the roads and tracks. Many animals sleep on the roads and dirt tracks.

Is driving a motorhome difficult in Namibia?

We strongly advise taking things a bit slower when driving in Namibia. Many roads in Namibia are loose gravel or sand. Slow down when changing from asphalt to gravel roads.
